When I was a kid, I am a very shy person. When we have visitors, I lock myself in our bedroom with my cat. When my teacher asked questions in class, I always hide so that he/she will not see me, but that was a wrong strategy. I have lived in my shell for decades because of my fears. But when I entered college, I was forced to come out because that's how I can survive in the university and in the field I chose which is Business Administration major in Entrepreneurial Marketing. The course which I guess is fated to me because at first, I don't really like it due to the confidence issue but circumstances came in and made me accept my fate. That's when my journey to earning self-confidence started.
To those who haven't earned their self-confidence, here are some of the tips that I keep in my mind to stay confident on all occasions.
1. Always think positive.
Thinking positive makes you fearless. It's just like when you first tried something you thought was dangerous like bungee jumping. You can never really jump if your thought is all about dying if you will jump. To be able to do it, you have to think of the positive reasons why you are doing it like you want to let go of the pains you have inside you and through bungee jumping you can achieve it. That's how positive thinking is.2. Believe in yourself.
You will never earn confidence if you keep on letting yourself down. You have to always think that you can do it. Look into the mirror and say, "I can do this!". Never let anyone pull you down especially those who don't even know you. On the other hand, when the people who know you tell you something negative about yourself, accept their comment and reflect on it. Maybe they're right and you have to change something for you to improve. Let go of your pride and start earning your confidence.3. Read inspirational or motivational stories or quotations often, if not always.
I am greatly grateful that I am a reader of motivational stories and quotations for it took a lot of part in my journey to confidence. I put everything I read not just in my mind but also in my heart so that I will never forget the lessons I've learned from those. Through it, I found myself comfortable talking to different kinds of people from different levels. I was able to earn many friends and found a job through it. One of the quotations that I absolutely like is from Abraham Lincoln which says," I am not bound to win but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed but I am bound to live the light I have. I will stand with anybody who is right and part of him when he goes wrong.".4. Always plan ahead and stick to your plans.
Planning ahead makes you prepared and ready in everything you do. If you don't have the confidence because you have a fear of committing mistakes, then you have to do this. Make sure that you believe in your plans and you will never change them when circumstances come. Changes must be done only if your plan will never work after some trials. But never change your plans completely when things don't work right at the present time for it may work later.5. Start talking to people.
Staying in your comfort zone will never help in achieving confidence. By just reading this article nothing will change. You have to test it through practical application. My confidence today is credited to my teachers, especially in my college days for the practical activities they required to apply the theories taught in our subjects. One of the activities that helped a lot is all about direct selling. I go around to look for prospects and then offer my products to them with a smile on my face because that's one of the most effective ways to earn the trust of others. And yes, I have sold everything out because of my earned confidence.In this very tough world, it will be hard for you to stay alive if you don't have the confidence to fight (not violently) and protect everything you believe in. You can't get the greatness you want if your confidence is not that great. Most of all, you can't enjoy the gift of life if you will not earn confidence.
