This is a special article that intends to help those who will vote this coming May 13, 2019 election choose the right candidates. I will share with you my checklist to voting wisely on election day.
My most important checklist. |
An election is not an examination that you will just do wild guessing if you don't know the right answer.
The future of our country and countrymen will depend on your vote. If you did not do your research beforehand, our government might be in chaos in the years to come. Who should you blame when this happens? It's none other than the voters who ignored facts and give their loyalty to the candidates who can give them money. So how can you determine you are choosing the right candidate? Below is my step-by-step checklist.
1. Look for the list of candidates online or any other legit sources. The list of candidates might be astonishing. The numerous list may discourage you from voting wisely, but you don't have to do one-by-one research. Continue reading to widen your understanding.2. Watch news reporting their campaigns and debates, and read articles (online or not) about the records of the candidates. Information is very important. Make sure you have the right information before you choose who to put on your list and vote. Beware of fake news. Confirm the news you've read, saw or heard before you believe and share it with others.
3. Choose your most preferred candidates and list them. Make sure your criteria in choosing is not based on the physical attribution of the candidates (many Filipinos can relate to this). The problems in our society cannot be solved with the charming looks a candidate has. We need leaders who can lift us from the degradation the previous politicians did in our country. Never list those candidates who have such bad records because our bad history might be repeated again and again. Aren't you tired of the system we have?
4. Do a deep background check about those candidates on your list. You don't have to check all the articles that show up when you type a candidate's name on the search engine (but that's what I usually do). Just click on the legit sites and you don't have to read everything in the article. Sometimes, the headline is enough to know the content of the news. But beware because there are many misleading headlines to get the attention of the readers.
5. Do more research and be updated on the upcoming election by following their (the candidates and networks) social media sites. By reading the comment section on their social media sites, you can get lots of feedback (positive and negative). Your research may include talking to your peers, family, colleagues and other individuals who may have more knowledge about those candidates.
6. Finalize your list a day before the election. Don't finalize your list too early. Many issues may arise that will reveal the real characters of your chosen candidates. It might be a hassle to many, but still, do it for our countrymen and country.
That's my checklist. Will you do the same or what are your strategies before voting?
