My Journey to Becoming a Licensed Real Estate Broker
Hey everyone! You might've seen this on my LinkedIn already, but figured I'd share it here too. (Just kidding about attracting future clients with this post...wink wink)
The real reason I'm posting here is to follow up on something I mentioned in a previous blog entry. Remember how I was gearing up for the Real Estate Brokers Licensure Exam? Well, this is your official update!
The roll of Real Real Estate Brokers Licensure Exam passers |
Before I took the Real Estate Broker Licensure Exam, I promised myself that I would publish a post about how I conquered the exam while working full-time if I succeeded to hopefully inspire others. Thankfully, I did! That's the reason for this article.
Changing Course
Let me rewind to the beginning of my real estate broker exam journey. It was over a year ago when I enrolled in my second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Management. Law school was originally on the table, but due to pressure and circumstances, I needed a change of direction.
Preparation
After a year, I graduated and immediately signed up with two review providers. One local review center offered online classes every weekday evening, while the other held classes every weekend night. I'm incredibly grateful to my mentors for their clear explanations, which helped me fully grasp many real estate brokerage concepts. My weekday review lasted a month, and the weekend review ended a week before the exam, including the "final coaching" sessions.
Supportive Environment
Having good bosses and supportive colleagues in a positive work environment also played a significant role. That's why I can't forget to mention my workplace, the Local Government Unit of Loreto, Agusan del Sur. This is where it all began. I'm incredibly thankful to my superiors and coworkers for their unwavering support.
Family and Faith
My journey to passing the licensure exam wouldn't have been possible without the help of the people in my household, especially my family. Having a special someone who could relate to the course material and patiently helped me understand accounting and taxation concepts was a huge advantage.
Prayer was also a constant companion throughout my journey, before, during, and after the exam. When the questions got tough, I paused and took a moment to pray. My faith in a higher power, guiding me unseen, kept me focused and calm throughout the real estate broker licensure exam.
Exam Day
I skipped lunch during the exam. Instead, I brought almonds, dried fruits, and a small, unlabeled water bottle. By 5:25 AM, I was already at the venue. Thankfully, I had a hearty breakfast with coffee to keep me going until 6 PM.
The gates opened at 5:30 AM, and I proceeded to the testing room. All bags were placed at the front, next to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) proctors. Thankfully, they were more considerate than what I'd heard from others.
The orientation began around 7:00 AM. All examinees were required to undergo a body check, including removing shoes and socks. Four hours were allotted for the two subjects, Real Estate Fundamentals, and Special and Technical Knowledge. We were given a one-hour break between each subject but weren't allowed to leave the room. During those breaks, I took a nap, sipped some water, and snacked on my almonds and dried fruits. The last subject was Professional Practice, which also took four hours. I finished the test around 5:30 PM.
It was the longest exam I'd ever taken, but it wasn't as draining as others I'd experienced, perhaps because I slept well the night before. I believe prayer also played a significant role in keeping me calm.
The Rewards of Perseverance
The feeling of passing the exam was truly rewarding. This journey, a redirection I never anticipated, ultimately led me to a fulfilling new career path.
Gratitude and Reflection
I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me on my journey to becoming a licensed real estate broker. This redirection was unexpected, but it's clear that God has a better plan.
Life is truly better when we trust, let go, and enjoy the ride.
Trust the Journey
My story is a testament to trusting your instincts and embracing life's unexpected turns. Sometimes, the best plans are the ones we don't plan for at all.
A New Chapter in Real Estate
The real estate world has just opened its doors to me, and I'm brimming with excitement to explore all the possibilities! While I haven't charted my exact course yet, I have a clear vision for my destination: a fulfilling career that lets me make a positive impact on people's lives through real estate. I'm eager to learn from experienced professionals in the industry and contribute my abilities.
